this whole thought process seems familar and makes sense! kudos to you for recognizing the need for change.
I’ve been in Austin for 9 years now and I’ve thought about leaving many many times, but it’s just such a beautiful place. The big downsides are exactly what you mentioned but the positives outweight them for the most part.
Sometimes I miss the efficiency and hustle of NYC, but I’ve come to prefer the emphasis on slowness and space here in Austin. It’s just such a loveable place.
Oh yay! Way to go after what’s right for you and your family! I totally hear you on Texas people and politics (eg, when we lived in DFW, I was approached by random strangers multiple times about joining their churches for no reason), but sounds like you already have a community to go into. And Austin has always been more liberal. Also, you’ll be in a position to make your next vote count extra special and help flip the State. ✨
As for leaving NYC, just my experience but we left last October, and six months out I miss my friends and good vegan Thai takeout. That’s about it. Other cities also have museums and events and restaurants and beaches, and a slower pace is quite nice, actually. It’s only hard to imagine living anywhere else until you do. 😊
Great article coming directly from your heart. I can resonate with it given whatever has transpired and going on in NY city. Remember, NY was pur stepping stone in US abd this city gave us so many things. But those days are no more it seems. Agree with the decision you and Avi are making and fully support it.

Thank you for sharing! Very helpful hearing your experience :)
I left New York this past September and moved to a new city early this January. I can definitely resonate with what you said about grief ❤️
Thank you for sharing! What has helped you get through it, if anything?
"are you good?" - yeah, i'm out
I just moved to Austin from NYC !

Excellent read
Your feelings and pain is palpable in this write up. I can totally understand it .
Whatever said and done , NYC takes a piece of your heart and also remain in your heart forever .
I remember when we were moving in 2008 and it was very mixed feelings
This city has been very kind to us too and I am forever grateful to it .
Like they say “ if we remain at one place , we stagnant and not grow just like water or air . So we have to flow or move to grow and do something
Let us just go with flow and believe in the universe.
It will all happen for the best
Lots of good wishes and blessings for your next steps
